Jordan Ayew is set to lead the Black Stars in their important 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying double-header against Sudan. The Leicester City forward will wear the captain’s armband following the withdrawal of Thomas Partey due to injury.
Ayew, who is usually fourth in line for the Black Stars captaincy, has been given this responsibility in the absence of his senior brother Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, and Daniel Amartey. Andre has not been called up to the national team since March, and Amartey has also been dropped for this set of matches.

With the absence of these key players, Jordan Ayew will take on the leadership role when Ghana faces Sudan in two crucial matches. The first game will take place on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by the reverse fixture four days later.
However, the Black Stars have been hit with multiple injuries ahead of these vital games. In addition to Partey, Joseph Paintsil, Kingsley Schindler, and Osman Ibrahim have also been ruled out due to injuries. According to a statement from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), these players picked up injuries during their club matches over the weekend.
Regarding Partey’s injury, the GFA mentioned that he is undergoing medical tests and will be unavailable for the upcoming games. Paintsil, who suffered a hamstring issue, will also miss out, with further tests scheduled for him. Meanwhile, Osman Ibrahim is sidelined with a calf injury, and Schindler is dealing with a medical emergency.
