Manchester United winger Antony has been cleared by Brazilian police after a year-long investigation into domestic abuse allegations made by his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin.

The investigation concluded without finding sufficient evidence to support the claims.

Last year, Cavallin accused Antony of “domestic violence, threat, and bodily injury.” The accusations were serious enough to prompt her to file police reports in both Brazil and England.

However, Antony consistently denied any wrongdoing from the start, stressing that the accusations were false.

The situation took a more complicated turn when two other women came forward with similar allegations against Antony.

While one of these cases was later dropped, the accusations continued to follow the former Ajax winger, putting him under immense pressure. In response, Antony gave an emotional interview on live television, where he firmly declared his innocence.

“It’s something that doesn’t cross my mind,” Antony said, tearfully. “I know the truth, and it will show up. I know there are a lot of people butchering me, but the truth comes out.”

As the investigation unfolded, Antony took a break from his football duties at the start of the 2023/24 season. This special leave led him to miss three Premier League matches, further highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Now, the investigation by the 5th Women’s Defence Precinct of São Paulo’s Civil Police has been closed, with Antony’s legal team confirming that no charges have been brought against him.

In a press release, Antony’s defense stated, “The defence has always believed that the investigations, which are being conducted under secrecy, would prove Antony’s innocence.”

Despite the case being closed, the final investigation report will still be reviewed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Brazil, along with the Brazilian Justice Department. This means that while Antony has been cleared by the police, the case is not entirely over.

Cavallin’s lawyer, Daniel Bialski, remains confident that the Public Prosecutor’s Office will move forward with a criminal complaint.

He emphasized, “There is overwhelming evidence that leaves no doubt that Gabriela was the victim, here in Brazil and in England, of physical and psychological aggression.

Therefore, we await the statement from the Public Prosecutor’s Office, trusting and hoping that a formal criminal complaint will be filed against former player Antony, who should be prosecuted and, ultimately, convicted for his multiple acts of violence against women.”

Meanwhile, a separate investigation by Greater Manchester Police is still ongoing, leaving Antony’s situation in England unresolved for now.

As the legal processes continue, Antony and his supporters hope that his name will be fully cleared, allowing him to focus on his football career without these allegations hanging over him.
