Angola’s head coach, Pedro Gonçalves, is confident that his team can beat Ghana, even though the Black Stars have shown significant improvement under their coach Otto Addo.

Angola will face Ghana on Thursday, September 5, in Kumasi, as both teams begin their quest to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Gonçalves Believes in His Team

This upcoming match marks Gonçalves’ third encounter with Ghana in the past two years.

He previously faced the Black Stars when Chris Hughton was in charge, losing one match and drawing the other. However, Gonçalves believes his team has improved since then.

Speaking ahead of the match, Gonçalves acknowledged Ghana’s progress under Otto Addo but also pointed out Angola’s growth.

“Otto Addo gives Ghana more flexibility in formation,” he said. “They can play in a line of five at the back or a line of four. I think Ghana is stronger right now, but we are also much stronger.”

Ghana’s Strong Form Under Otto Addo

Since Otto Addo’s return as head coach, Ghana has played four matches, winning two, losing one, and drawing the other.

Addo has brought flexibility to the Black Stars’ playing style, which has been key to their recent success.

With Addo at the helm, the Black Stars are a tougher team to break down, but Gonçalves believes his side can rise to the challenge and get a positive result in Kumasi.

A Thrilling Contest Awaits

The game in Kumasi promises to be an exciting contest as both teams look to start their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign with a win.
