Black Stars captain André Ayew rolled back the years with a heroic display, scoring and assisting as Le Havre pulled off a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over Lens in an electrifying Ligue 1 clash on Saturday night.
Lens looked in control early on, grabbing the lead just two minutes into the game when Neil El Aynaoui calmly slotted home a penalty.
The visitors doubled their advantage midway through the first half when Ruben Aguilar fired into the bottom corner after connecting with a precise cross from Deiver Machado.
But Le Havre refused to go down without a fight. Issa Soumaré sparked the comeback with a stunning long-range strike, cutting the deficit in half.
Moments later, Soumaré turned provider, flicking a header into the path of Ayew, who expertly guided his own header into the bottom right corner to level the score at 2-2 in the 33rd minute.
Lens reclaimed the lead early in the second half through Florian Sotoca, but Ayew wasn’t done yet.
The Ghanaian veteran whipped in a dangerous cross that forced a poor clearance from Malang Sarr, allowing Josué Casimir to pounce and equalize once again.
The game reached peak drama in stoppage time when Casimir won a penalty, and Ahmed Hassan held his nerve to slot home the winner, sealing a sensational victory for Le Havre.
At 34, Ayew continues to show his class, taking his season tally to four goals. His leadership and experience could prove crucial as Le Havre battles to secure their Ligue 1 status.
