Bayern Munich fans have been left baffled as their team has been unable to wear their famous red home kit in this season’s Champions League.
Instead, Harry Kane and his teammates have had to settle for their away and retro kits in Europe’s biggest competition. Now, the reason behind this bizarre rule has been revealed.
UEFA’s Visibility Rules to Blame
According to reports from SUN SPORTS, UEFA has banned Bayern from wearing their traditional red kit due to an issue with the visibility of the shirt numbers.
The governing body claims that the dark-colored numbers on the red jersey do not provide enough contrast for viewers, violating UEFA’s strict visibility regulations.
To resolve the issue, Bayern Munich must modify their kit by changing the numbers and names on the back to white. Only then will UEFA allow them to wear their iconic red strip in future Champions League matches. Until then, Bayern will have to continue donning their alternative kits in European fixtures.
Bayern Forced to Wear Alternate Kits
So far in the competition, the Bundesliga giants have been seen wearing either their black away kit or a beige retro jersey featuring the club’s old crest. Despite this unusual situation, the German side has maintained their strong performances in the tournament.
This week, Bayern Munich is set to travel to Scotland for a high-stakes Champions League playoff clash against Celtic. Even though there is no color clash with Celtic’s green-and-white kit, Bayern still won’t be wearing their home colors due to UEFA’s ruling.
Celtic Ready to Challenge Bayern at Home
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is confident his team can cause an upset, saying, “I have no doubt at all that we can hurt Bayern. We have shown at every level that we are capable of scoring goals.”
The Scottish champions have been formidable at home this season, boasting an unbeaten run of 16 matches at Celtic Park, including four Champions League victories. They have already taken down German opposition in the tournament, securing a 3-1 win over RB Leipzig earlier in the campaign.
Bayern Legend Muller Warns About Celtic Park Atmosphere
Bayern veteran Thomas Muller has issued a warning about the intimidating atmosphere at Celtic Park, emphasizing that playing in front of the passionate Scottish crowd is no easy task.
“Anyone who underestimates the Scots has never experienced them at Celtic Park. This atmosphere is amazing; it will be a real highlight,” Muller said.
With a crucial Champions League showdown against Celtic ahead, Bayern will be looking to extend their dominance despite the unusual kit controversy. If they progress, they could face a tough battle against Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid in the next round.
Muller added, “So put your beer on ice, February will definitely be an exciting football month.”
