Black Stars Coach Otto Addo Goes Three Months Without Pay

Reports have emerged that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and his technical team have not received their salaries for three months.

The story, first reported by Kumasi-based Kessben FM, did not provide reasons for the delay.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly in talks with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to settle the outstanding payments.

According to Ghanaweb, this is part of efforts to avoid further controversy, especially as public criticism mounts over the team’s poor performances.

Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has left fans disappointed.

In Addo’s second stint as coach, the Black Stars failed to win any of their six qualifiers, finishing last in Group F with just three points after three draws and three losses.

Their campaign ended with a 2-1 defeat to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, 2024.

Even a win wouldn’t have saved Ghana, as Sudan’s goalless draw with Angola secured their qualification alongside the group leaders.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo’s future as head coach hangs in the balance. The GFA has summoned him to present a detailed technical report on the team’s performances.

This follows an Executive Council meeting held on November 20, 2024. Addo’s fate will reportedly be decided after the meeting scheduled for November 27, 2024.

For now, Addo and his backroom staff remain unpaid, adding to the growing frustrations surrounding the Black Stars’ struggles both on and off the pitch.
