Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has addressed concerns about Kylian Mbappe’s recent struggles, attributing them to the team’s overall lack of consistency rather than solely to the French striker.
The superstar forward, who joined Real Madrid last summer after leaving Paris Saint-Germain, has been under scrutiny following his recent performances, including missing a penalty in the Champions League defeat against Liverpool.
A Team-Wide Issue
Ancelotti emphasized that Mbappe’s form reflects the broader challenges facing the team.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of Madrid’s La Liga clash with Getafe, he said:
“Mbappe’s problem is the problem that we all have. It’s not about one player.
We all need to give our best version, including myself and the rest of the team. Yes, Mbappe can play better, but so can we all.”
The coach highlighted that Mbappe, who has scored eight goals and contributed assists since his arrival, is still adapting to the team and has faced challenges on and off the pitch.
Adapting to New Surroundings
Mbappe’s recent dip in form—scoring just two goals in his last nine matches—has drawn criticism, but Ancelotti defended his player’s potential and effort.
“He is not sunken. He knows he has to improve, just like we all do,” said Ancelotti. He added that the scrutiny following the missed penalty against Liverpool was unfair, as such moments have happened to other players in the team.

Injuries and Team Challenges
Real Madrid’s recent struggles have been compounded by injuries to key players, including Vinicius Junior, Dani Carvajal, and Eder Militao.
Despite these setbacks, Ancelotti remains confident in his team’s ability to turn things around.
Brazilian winger Rodrygo is expected to be available for the match against Getafe, offering a boost to the squad.
Determination to Improve
With Real Madrid trailing La Liga leaders Barcelona by four points, Ancelotti is focused on fixing the team’s inconsistencies.
He admitted he shares Mbappe’s frustrations but expressed optimism about the team’s ability to improve.
“I am like Mbappe, trying to give my best version,” he said. “Results say I haven’t been able to do that, but I’m convinced we will fix it.”
As Madrid seeks to regain their footing in both La Liga and the Champions League, Ancelotti’s faith in his players, including Mbappe, will be crucial in navigating this challenging period.
