Matthew Amoah Warns Semenyo Against Signing For Tottenham Hotspur

Former Ghanaian international Matthew Amoah has urged Antoine Semenyo to think twice before making a summer move to Tottenham Hotspur, warning that it could be a step in the wrong direction.

The Bournemouth forward has been linked with a high-profile transfer to Spurs, with reports suggesting the North London club is ready to splash £33.5 million to secure his services.

Semenyo, 25, has been in top form this season, bagging nine goals and five assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.

His performances have caught the attention of several big clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Napoli.

Despite the growing interest, Amoah believes Tottenham might not be the best destination for the Ghanaian attacker at this stage of his career.

The ex-Black Stars striker, who played at the 2006 World Cup, insists that if Spurs are the only club making a serious offer, Semenyo should stay put at Bournemouth.

“With all due respect to Tottenham, if this is the only offer Semenyo gets, he’s better off staying at Bournemouth,” Amoah told Africa Foot.

He further argued that Bournemouth is currently in a stronger position football-wise than Spurs, making a switch to North London a potential mistake.

“Bournemouth are playing better football, they have a stable setup, and Andoni Iraola is doing a fantastic job as their coach. Tottenham, on the other hand, are struggling. Moving to a club in crisis could hurt his progress, and that makes no footballing sense,” Amoah added.

Semenyo Set for Black Stars Duty

While speculation over his club future continues, Semenyo is expected to feature for Ghana in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar later this month.

Multiple reports in Ghana suggest that Black Stars head coach Otto Addo will announce his squad for the crucial qualifiers on Friday, March 14, 2025. With Semenyo’s red-hot form, his inclusion seems almost certain as Ghana aims to take a big step towards securing a World Cup spot.
