Manchester United’s FA Cup hopes came to a crushing end after a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to Fulham, with Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee enduring a night to forget.
Stepping up to take his spot-kick, Zirkzee saw his effort denied by Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno, a miss that proved costly.
With all four Fulham players converting their penalties, United’s chances slipped further when Victor Lindelof also failed to find the net.
A Tough Debut Season
It’s been a challenging first season at Old Trafford for Zirkzee, though he had a standout moment earlier in the campaign, scoring the winning penalty in United’s third-round victory over Arsenal.
However, this time, the shootout didn’t go in his favor, and another opportunity for silverware disappeared.
Zirkzee’s Apology to Fans
Following the defeat, the 22-year-old took to social media to express his disappointment. Posting a photo with his teammates, he wrote: “Sorry to let you down today Reds. Thanks for the incredible support.”
While the FA Cup dream is over, United will have to regroup quickly as they shift their focus to finishing the season on a high.
