Manchester City fans are in for a shock as the club has hinted that Erling Haaland could be out for most of the season due to an ankle injury.
The Norwegian striker was forced off during City’s FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth on Sunday, leaving supporters holding their breath.
Despite Pep Guardiola’s hopes for positive news, things are looking grim after Haaland was spotted on crutches following the match.
Now, City has confirmed the worst fears Haaland has indeed suffered an ankle injury and will need further assessment.
The club’s latest statement has raised concerns that the star forward could miss a huge chunk of the season, including the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.
Instead, their update only mentioned a potential return in time for the Club World Cup this summer.
“Manchester City FC can confirm that Erling Haaland has suffered an injury to his left ankle,” the club said in a statement. “The Norwegian striker sustained the injury during Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final victory away at AFC Bournemouth.
Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist consultation to confirm the full extent of the injury. Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis.
The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
Everyone at the Club wishes Erling a speedy recovery and mancity.com will bring you regular updates regarding his rehabilitation.”

The news has left City fans wondering how their team will cope without their goal machine, especially with crucial games on the horizon. The club is still fighting for silverware on multiple fronts, and Haaland’s absence could deal a major blow to their ambitions.
Adding to his frustration, Haaland had to leave Bournemouth in a protective boot, unable to drive his new £350,000 Aston Martin DBX 707.
A City staff member had to collect the lime-green supercar on his behalf when he returned to Manchester.
City will now have to adjust their plans as they prepare to face Leicester on Wednesday before heading to Old Trafford for a high-stakes derby against Manchester United on Sunday.
With the race for Champions League spots heating up, Guardiola will have to find a way to keep his team firing without their star striker.
For now, City fans can only hope for a miracle recovery as they await further updates on Haaland’s condition.
