Jordan Ayew has hailed Chelsea legend Michael Essien as the greatest Ghanaian player to ever compete in the English Premier League. Essien’s career at Chelsea was nothing short of extraordinary, playing an integral role in helping the club secure two Premier League titles within his first five years.
Essien joined Chelsea in 2005, brought in by the famous manager José Mourinho, and quickly cemented his position as one of the team’s most influential players.
Over the years, Essien made 162 appearances for the Blues and found the net 17 times, making a significant contribution to the club’s triumphs.
In an interview with Showmax, Ayew shared his admiration for Essien. “There are many, but I always go for Michael Essien because of what he achieved in the Premier League and the trophies he won with Chelsea,” Ayew stated.
This sentiment is echoed by Ayew’s fellow Ghanaian and Leicester City teammate, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who also considers Essien the best Ghanaian player to grace the Premier League. “I will go for Essien as well, he was a phenomenal player,” Issahaku shared with Showmax.
During his illustrious time at Chelsea, Essien amassed numerous trophies, including Premier League titles, FA Cups, the Champions League, the Europa League, the Community Shield, and the Carabao Cup. His legacy remains a testament to his excellence on the field.
