Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus has hailed the FIFA World Cup as the pinnacle of football, describing the experience of playing in Qatar 2022 as an “amazing feeling.”
The West Ham United star, who made his World Cup debut with Ghana, shared his thoughts in an interview with Rising Ballers, reflecting on the unique atmosphere of football’s biggest stage.
Kudus on the Magic of the World Cup
Kudus, who had an impressive tournament in Qatar, made it clear that nothing compares to the World Cup.
“It was really nice. I think the World Cup is the best football tournament. The Champions League is up there, but the World Cup was just different in Qatar—my first time.”
For the former Ajax playmaker, the competition stands above even the prestigious UEFA Champions League, thanks to its global appeal and unmatched intensity.
Beyond the football itself, Kudus cherished the personal moment of having his family present to watch him live on the world stage.
“My family flew all the way to support me, so it was an amazing feeling.”
Looking Ahead to 2026
Despite Ghana’s early exit in Qatar, Kudus remains grateful for the experience, even though he had hoped for a deeper run in the tournament.
“We didn’t go as far as I would have loved us to go, but it was nice to experience the World Cup. To be part of it was great.”
Now, his focus is on helping Ghana secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. After missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Black Stars are more determined than ever to make a strong comeback on the world stage.
