Ugandan police are investigating the shocking and mysterious death of Nigerian footballer Abubakar Lawal, who allegedly fell from a shopping mall balcony in Kampala.
However, conflicting reports suggest he may have been involved in a motorcycle accident, leaving questions unanswered.
What Happened?
Lawal, a 29-year-old striker for Vipers SC, reportedly fell from the third-floor balcony of Voicemall Shopping Arcade while visiting a Tanzanian friend, Omary Naima.
According to reports, Naima had stepped out, leaving Lawal preparing tea in her room when the tragic incident occurred.
The footballer was rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.
Tributes Pour In
Lawal’s passing has sent shockwaves through the football community. His club, Vipers SC, described him as a generous and kind-hearted individual, while his former Nigerian team, Nasarawa United, mourned his untimely loss.
“Lawal (Man from Sokoto) had a heart of gold. He truly cared about people and was incredibly generous. We are deeply saddened by his sudden demise. May his soul rest in peace,” Nasarawa United shared in a statement.
Ugandan footballer Mustafa Kizza also paid tribute, remembering Lawal as a talented and warm individual who always brought joy to those around him.

Lawal’s death remains clouded in mystery, as conflicting reports suggest he may have been involved in a motorcycle accident instead.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting interviews to determine what really happened.
Authorities have also recovered some of his belongings, including smartphones and his training kit, as part of the ongoing investigation.
