Our game against Girona is like a Champions League final, a must win – Hansi Flick

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has warned that his team must be at their best as they take on Girona in a crucial La Liga match on Sunday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Flick described the upcoming fixture as a “Champions League level” challenge and emphasized the importance of his team giving 100% effort to secure the win.

A Tough Test After a Perfect Start

After the international break, Barcelona returns to La Liga with confidence, having won their first four games against Valencia, Athletic, Rayo Vallecano, and Valladolid.

However, Flick knows that Girona will provide a much tougher test. The third-placed team from last season has impressed the German coach, who has closely followed their matches.

“It’s a high-level game, Champions League level. I’ve seen a lot of Girona’s games, and I’ve been impressed. We are confident after four wins and we know how we want to play the game,” Flick said during the pre-match press conference.

Possession and Defense Key to Success

Flick highlighted possession as one of the most important aspects of the game, noting that Girona likes to control the ball.

He stressed the need for Barcelona to be strong defensively and to press effectively throughout the match.

“We must defend as a team, know how to occupy positions well on the pitch, stay on top of our opponents,” Flick explained.

The Barcelona boss believes that his team is ready for the challenge and will need to be sharp in all areas of the pitch to secure the three points.

Focus on Girona, Not the Champions League

With the Champions League opener against Monaco just around the corner, Flick made it clear that his focus is solely on the Girona match.

Despite the busy schedule, he insisted that the team must be fully prepared for the challenge ahead in La Liga.

“We have to give 100 per cent. Our players are ready (mentally and physically). Tomorrow is the day. I’m not thinking about the Champions League yet, just this game,” Flick stated.

As Barcelona look to maintain their perfect start to the season, Flick’s message is clear—nothing less than total commitment will be enough to overcome Girona.
