Pooley Was Stabbed at a 'Ghetto' Before Being Taken to Stadium – Journalist Reveals

Fresh details have surfaced about the heartbreaking death of Asante Kotoko fan Yaw Frimpong, widely known as ‘Nana Pooley,’ shedding new light on the events that led to his tragic end.

According to journalist Enoch Kwesi Worlanyo Wallace of Asempa FM, Pooley was stabbed at a well-known spot outside the Nana Amoah Kronmansah II Park in Nsoatre, not inside the stadium as some initially believed.

He was later rushed to the venue, where he sadly passed away.

How It Happened

Wallace explained that Pooley had gone to a local area, often referred to as a ‘ghetto,’ for a casual conversation.

However, a heated argument unrelated to football broke out, leading to a violent confrontation. In the middle of the dispute, a man identified as Brimah allegedly stabbed Pooley.

Realizing the severity of the situation, a tricycle operator known as Sunsum attempted to rush Pooley to the hospital.

However, on the way, they spotted an ambulance at the stadium. Pooley, believing he could receive quicker medical attention there, asked to stop. Unfortunately, he had lost too much blood and collapsed before he could be helped.

Ongoing Investigations

Following the incident, Sunsum voluntarily reported himself to the police to assist with the investigation. Authorities, along with Kotoko club officials, are now fully aware of the circumstances surrounding Pooley’s death.

Wallace noted that this clarity on the situation likely played a role in Kotoko’s decision to return to the Ghana Premier League after their temporary withdrawal.

Pooley to Be Laid to Rest on March 7

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko Circles Chairman, Alex Manu, has announced that Pooley will be laid to rest on March 7. A one-week memorial was recently held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to honor his memory.
