Manchester United have revealed their 25-man squad for the upcoming Europa League campaign.
After missing out on the Champions League, Erik ten Hag’s team is back in Europe’s second-tier competition, looking to make a strong push for the trophy this season.
Strong Squad with Some Surprises
United, who begin their Europa League journey at the end of September against FC Twente, are considered one of the favourites to win the tournament.
Despite a shaky start to the Premier League, losing two of their first three games, Erik ten Hag’s side will be hoping for a better showing in Europe this time around after a disappointing exit in last year’s Champions League group stages.
While all of United’s summer signings are included in the squad, including defender Leny Yoro, two of the club’s young stars, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, have been left out of the main list.
However, this is not due to performance reasons. Both players are still expected to feature prominently in the competition, as they qualify for UEFA’s ‘B’ list, which includes young players who have been with the club for at least two years.
Injury Concerns and New Additions
Several injured players are also part of the squad. Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, both recovering from injuries, have been included as they continue their rehabilitation.
New goalkeeper Andre Onana, who joined in the summer, is set to play a crucial role between the posts, along with backup keepers Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton.
Harry Amass, a 17-year-old talent who joined from Watford’s academy in 2023, has also been named on the main list, showing Ten Hag’s belief in giving young players a chance.
United’s Hopes for a Successful Campaign
Manchester United have at least eight matches lined up in the group stage of the Europa League, with the new ‘Swiss model’ guaranteeing four home and four away games.
The matches will run from late September through January, and Ten Hag will hope his squad can find the form needed to make a deep run in the competition.
With the busy schedule ahead, the Red Devils will need to manage their squad carefully, spreading minutes among players while maintaining a competitive edge in all competitions.
