Ruben Amorim identifies Man Utd's two biggest weaknesses under Erik ten Hag

Ruben Amorim is determined to address two major problems at Manchester United as he prepares to take charge of his first game as the new head coach.

United face Ipswich this weekend, marking the start of Amorim’s mission to continue the momentum built under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who guided the team to three wins in four matches after Erik ten Hag’s departure.

In his first press conference, Amorim didn’t hold back on identifying areas where the team needs to improve.

“If you talk about the way we play, I think we lose the ball too often,” he said. “And we need to be better at running back.

That is clear to everybody! People think you have to change big things, but sometimes it’s the small details that matter. I believe I can help a lot with the small things.”

This weekend’s clash with Ipswich offers an opportunity for Amorim to guide United into the top half of the Premier League table.

While he’s optimistic about the immediate challenges, the Portuguese manager is also realistic about the time it will take to bring United back to competing for top honors.

“I have a contract for two and a half years,” Amorim explained. “In two years, you can see if I’m the right manager for this process.

Clubs that are winning in this league have been building for a long time. We need more time, but I understand we have to win something along the way. In two years, we’ll know if this is working.”

After the Ipswich game, Amorim will lead United in their Europa Conference League clash against Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford—his first home game in charge.

While he acknowledges the challenge of transforming the team mid-season, he remains confident that progress can be made quickly.

“You might think it’s not possible, but I think it is,” Amorim said. “We have room to grow as a team. There’s a lot to improve: the understanding of the game, our style of play, and the physical condition of the players.

I don’t know how long it will take, but I know that at Manchester United, you have to win games. We’ll keep improving while focusing on getting results.”

Amorim is fully aware of the pressure that comes with managing a club of United’s stature but believes his vision and attention to detail can help turn things around.

As he begins his journey, fans will be watching closely to see if his approach can restore the club’s glory days.
