Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has put an end to speculation about Bruno Fernandes’ future, insisting that the Portuguese star is going nowhere this summer.
Fernandes has been in sensational form, scoring seven goals in his last seven matches ahead of United’s clash with Nottingham Forest.
With 16 goals and 15 assists this season, the 30-year-old playmaker has been United’s key man, sparking reports of a potential £90 million move to Real Madrid as the club looks to balance its books.
But Amorim made it clear that Fernandes remains a crucial part of his plans.
‘It’s not going to happen. This is the kind of player that we want, and he’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him!’ Amorim said.
‘He’s 30 but still has so much left in him. He plays 55 games a season, and between goals and assists, he contributes at least 30 times. He’s exactly the type of player we need here.’
Fernandes, who signed a contract extension until 2027 last year, has previously stated that he wants United to match his ambition.
However, critics have pointed to his body language on the pitch, suggesting that he may be frustrated with the club’s struggles.
Amorim dismissed those concerns, saying: ‘That’s the challenge. We want to win the Premier League again, so we need the best players to stay.
I feel he is really happy here, especially because he understands the project, and he’s a true United supporter. Sometimes people misinterpret his frustration, but it just shows how badly he wants to win.’
Meanwhile, Amorim remained tight-lipped about Marcus Rashford’s future. The 27-year-old, who has struggled for form at United, impressed while on international duty under new England boss Thomas Tuchel and scored for Aston Villa in their FA Cup win over Preston.
Villa have the option to make his move permanent for £40 million at the end of the season, but Amorim refused to be drawn into speculation.
‘I’m planning for the future, but I don’t want to discuss it now,’ he said. ‘Everyone knows Rashford’s talent. He’s a top player—if he wants to be.’
For now, United fans can breathe easy knowing that Fernandes remains committed to the club as they push to finish the season on a high.
