Erik ten Hag Remains Confident Despite Manchester United's Slow Start

Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, has assured fans that he is not worried about the team’s poor start to the season, despite their disappointing performances. Ten Hag believes there is no reason to panic and remains confident that things will turn around.

After United’s tough 3-0 loss to Tottenham, which left them sitting 13th in the Premier League, the pressure is on. However, Ten Hag told Sky Sports on Monday that the team can fix their issues. “Nothing is easy, but this is nothing for me to panic about,” Ten Hag said. “We can sort [the problems] out, this team can sort this out.”

So far, Manchester United has only managed to win three of their nine games across all competitions this season, with victories coming against Fulham, Southampton, and Barnsley. This slow start comes after Ten Hag’s first season in charge saw him guide the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the Premier League. They also lifted the EFL Cup and reached the FA Cup final in that campaign.

Although last season United finished a disappointing eighth in the Premier League, they ended on a high note by beating Manchester City to win the FA Cup. Ten Hag was rewarded with a new contract over the summer, keeping him at the club until 2026. Club executives have shown faith in him, with chief executive Omar Berrada stating that Ten Hag has their full support.

Ten Hag believes that the club’s leadership and ownership are still behind him. He explained that they have a clear plan to bring in young players during this transition period. “We created a togetherness in the summer with the ownership and the leadership,” Ten Hag said. “We made this agreement, and we were all behind it.”

United’s next challenge will be a Europa League clash against Porto on Thursday, followed by a tough Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday before the international break.

Struggling in Front of Goal

Despite a summer spending spree that saw players like Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Manuel Ugarte join the squad, United’s performances have been below expectations. The team has only managed to score five goals in their opening six games, one of their worst starts in recent memory.

They have also struggled at home, losing back-to-back Premier League matches at Old Trafford without scoring a single goal, something that hasn’t happened since November 2021.

Ten Hag, however, remains calm. He insists that United’s struggles are part of a long-term transition and that sticking to the plan is key. “If you lose your faith, you lose everything,” he said. “For a long period, we are in transition at Manchester United. From the moment I came in, we knew we had to change. We had to replace some older players.”

Although the road ahead may seem tough, Ten Hag believes the young players he has brought in will eventually adjust to the game model and new culture he is trying to create at the club. He remains focused on getting United back to winning ways and insists that success will come, as it has in his previous seasons.
