Manchester United’s hierarchy has thrown its full support behind manager Erik ten Hag, despite the team’s disappointing 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The loss has raised concerns about Ten Hag’s position, especially after narrowly escaping the sack this summer. However, the club’s new leadership remains confident in the Dutchman’s ability to turn things around.
Backing from the Top
Chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth, both of whom joined United in July, have reaffirmed their commitment to Ten Hag.
Berrada emphasized the strong relationship they’ve built with the manager, particularly during the recent transfer window. “Erik has our full backing,” Berrada said.
“We’re going to continue working closely with him to help get the best results for the team.”
Berrada also addressed the decision to extend Ten Hag’s contract by one year, a move made before his arrival at the club.
Despite the team’s rocky start to the season, Berrada insisted that the support for Ten Hag will not waver, stating, “We think Erik is the right coach for us, and we’re fully backing him.”
Ashworth’s Confidence
Sporting director Dan Ashworth, who replaced former football director John Murtough, echoed Berrada’s sentiments.
Ashworth, who has been working with Ten Hag for the past eight weeks, highlighted the importance of supporting the manager in every aspect of his job.
“My job is to support Erik in every way I possibly can,” Ashworth said. “I’ve really enjoyed working with him, and we’re focused on helping him succeed at Manchester United.”
Looking Ahead
Despite the early setbacks this season, Manchester United’s leadership is confident that Erik ten Hag is the right man to lead the club forward.
With the backing of Berrada and Ashworth, Ten Hag will continue to focus on improving the team’s performance and delivering success at Old Trafford.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on United to see if the faith in their manager pays off.
